A boat ride before dinner sounds like a simple South Florida plan. At Cap's Place in Lighthouse Point, it is also a reason to check the details before leaving: which address gets you to the launch, whether your table is confirmed, and how much time to leave for the crossing.

The Friendly Scoop's guide to fun restaurants around Broward and Palm Beach includes Cap's Place among its outings. This is a closer look at one practical visit, using the restaurant's own directions, booking rules and menu notices checked October 14, 2026. It is not a reservation, a dining review or a promise that a particular dish will be available.

For someone comparing homes nearby, an outing like this is one local detail to understand. It does not establish a home's value, boat access, dock rights or the day-to-day convenience of an address. Those questions need their own checks.

Start with the launch dock, not the restaurant's historic address

Cap's Place directs guests to take its motor launch from Cap's dock beside Lighthouse Point Yacht Basin and Marina. The customer launch address on the directions page is 2765 NE 28th Court, Lighthouse Point, FL 33064.

The National Park Service's historic record lists Cap's Place at 2980 NE 31st Avenue. That is a record of the historic property, not the customer parking and launch instruction. Put the operator's dock address into your plan and follow its signs and current directions.

The restaurant describes private parking at its dock and public parking around the townhouses near the yacht basin. Read the directions page and the signs where you park. Do not assume every nearby space is customer parking or that a space will be waiting at a busy time.

This is also a residential-area arrival. Keep the route, signs and neighbors in mind rather than trying to drive to the restaurant building because a historic record or third-party listing shows a different address.

The published days are Wednesday through Sunday

The restaurant's current reservation and directions pages say it is open Wednesday through Sunday from 5:30 p.m., with Mondays and Tuesdays closed. The closing time is shown as "until...", not a fixed hour. The site says hours may vary and asks guests to call after 5 p.m. at 954-941-0418.

An older 2020 restaurant feature lists Tuesday through Sunday. That is not the schedule to carry forward when the operator's current page says Tuesday is closed. Confirm the day you want and the latest seating time directly, particularly around a holiday or a late visit.

The pages checked for this guide do not list a launch timetable or a set crossing time. Allow for parking, waiting and boarding instead of treating the boat as a precisely timed transfer. Ask the restaurant how early to reach the dock for your table.

A request is not a confirmed table

Cap's Place recommends reservations and says they cannot be taken more than two weeks in advance. Its online form is a request. The page is explicit: all reservations must be confirmed by Cap's Place, and until the restaurant confirms, no reservation has been made.

If a confirmation email does not arrive, the restaurant asks guests to call after 5 p.m. Check spam and promotions folders too. Sending a form or email is not a reason to tell your group the table is settled.

The online reservation system is not monitored after 3:30 p.m. For a same-day request after that cutoff, the page directs guests to call at 5 p.m. That is a contact instruction, not a promise that a same-day table will be available.

Do not confuse the two-week window with guaranteed availability. Pick a date inside that window, make the request through the operator's route and wait for confirmation. This guide has not checked or booked a table for any reader.

Your reservation time is table time

The reservation page says to allow enough travel time for boat transport. Reservations are for table time, and the restaurant holds them for a maximum of 15 minutes.

That means arriving at the dock at your reservation time is not the same thing as being at the table on time. Work backward from what the restaurant tells you about boarding and the launch. If your group is running late, call rather than assume the table hold starts when you step off the boat.

Mobility, boarding assistance, accessible arrival arrangements and weather-related changes are not established by the pages checked for this guide. Ask the restaurant about your specific needs before making a plan. A historic article about a guest traveling by boat does not prove today's vessel or route is accessible.

We are not quoting a shuttle fare or calling the ride free based on an old article. Confirm any boat arrangements or charges with the operator along with your dinner plan.

Read the menu as a sample, not inventory

Cap's menu page describes seafood, steaks, chops, chicken and other choices, but it says items are offered in limited quantities and are subject to availability. The page calls itself a sample of the types of items offered and warns that not everything is available every night.

If a particular fish, shellfish dish or dessert is the reason for your visit, call after 5 p.m. on the evening of your reservation. A dish listed online is not confirmation it is on tonight's menu. We are not carrying an old price into this guide as a current offer.

The page also states one dinner check per party and asks customers to tell the restaurant about food allergies. Discuss any dietary needs directly; this guide does not certify an allergen-free meal or provide food-safety advice.

For a group, the check rule is useful to settle before dinner. Agree how you will handle the bill rather than assuming the restaurant will divide it into several separate checks.

History is part of the place, not a housing forecast

The restaurant's history page dates its start to 1928, when it was known as Club Unique. The National Park Service has a Cap's Place record in the National Register Information System, identifying the property in Lighthouse Point and its historic significance.

That gives context for the outing. It does not make a nearby home historic, guarantee protection for another parcel or predict appreciation. Check a property's own records and rules if preservation or redevelopment matters to your purchase.

Likewise, the ability to take the restaurant launch says nothing about whether a nearby home has navigable water access, a usable dock, a boat lift or permission to add one. Those are property-specific questions, not benefits supplied by a restaurant nearby.

Build the evening around the real route

For a home buyer or a visitor staying in Broward or Palm Beach, the useful comparison is the whole evening: the drive at your actual departure time, parking, launch boarding, dinner and the trip back. Being close on a map is not the same thing as having a routine that works for you.

Keep a short checklist: confirm the operating day and table, use the dock address, ask when to arrive for the boat, discuss any access needs and check a must-have menu item. None of those steps needs a dramatic promise about the neighborhood. They just make the plan clearer.
