Dog-Friendly Broward and Palm Beach: Beaches, Parks and Everyday Rules
Featured image: concept illustration of a generic coastal park, not a photograph of a particular dog beach or proof of pet access.
A place can be dog-friendly without allowing dogs everywhere, every day or off leash. That is the detail worth checking before you load the car. A beach might have a defined dog area and permit hours. A park might allow a leashed walk but exclude a nature area. A restaurant patio might have its own rules.
The Friendly Scoop's new guide covers a wide range of Broward and Palm Beach options. This guide focuses on the rules that can change an ordinary outing and the questions worth asking when you are comparing a home's daily routine. Official city and county information was checked October 11, 2026.
It is not a promise that every outdoor place welcomes pets or a ranking of neighborhoods. Service-animal access has separate legal rules; the pet policies below should not be treated as a full explanation of those rights.
Jupiter: know the beach markers
The Town of Jupiter defines its dog-friendly beach as the 2.5-mile stretch from beach marker 26 at Marcinski Road north to marker 57 at the Carlin Park property line. Do not use "Jupiter beach" as shorthand for unlimited pet access up and down the coast.
The town permits off-leash dogs within that area only when they are behaved, obedient, well socialized, non-aggressive and responsive to voice commands. Owners must supervise their dogs and remain within the designated boundaries. Dogs should be leashed on the walk between the car and the beach.
The beach is shared with people who may not want to meet your dog. Keep control, clean up and give other visitors room. Off-leash permission does not make an uncontrolled dog acceptable.
The town also warns about hot sand and asphalt, fresh water needs and changing ocean conditions. A calm-looking shoreline does not prove the water is safe. Check current conditions and keep your dog supervised. Do not let the beach outing become an excuse to ignore a dog's limits.
Boca Raton: a permit and a time window
Bark Beach is at Spanish River Park between lifeguard towers 18 and 20. Boca Raton's current official page says it is now open seven days a week. Older weekend-only summaries should not be used to plan a visit.
The listed hours are 7-9 a.m. and a separate afternoon window: 3 p.m. to sunset during standard time and 5 p.m. to sunset during daylight saving time. Check the current seasonal hours before leaving. The park being open is not the same as the dog beach being available.
A dog entry permit is required. The city says each dog needs its own permit and allows no more than two dogs per person. Carry the permit and leash dogs when entering and leaving the dog beach. Off-leash access is confined to the designated area during its designated hours.
Beach parking is not included in the dog permit. The city also notes that a Boca Raton mailing address does not necessarily establish city or beach-and-park-district residency. Confirm your address's eligibility and current permit category with the city before assuming a resident rate.
There is a recent parking change too: the city says beach park gatehouses stopped accepting cash for daily and weekend parking on October 1, 2026. Check payment instructions with the city before your visit. Do not arrive assuming the same process you used last season.
Coral Springs: dog park versus community park
The Coral Springs Dog Park is a different kind of outing from an ocean beach. The city's rules exclude dogs under four months, require proof of vaccinations and ask owners to supervise and keep gates closed. The park's purpose is not a waiver of owner responsibility.
One rule is easy to miss when looking at a map: the city says dogs are not permitted in its other community parks, while leashed dogs are allowed in smaller neighborhood parks. That means a nearby green space is not automatically part of your dog's walking routine.
Review the city's park directory for the exact place you are considering. If a listing is unclear about the distinction, ask the city before planning around it. A home's proximity to a large park does not by itself tell you where a pet can go.
Broward county parks: leash walks and dog facilities are different
Broward County describes leashed-dog access in most county parks, with a non-retractable six-foot leash and exclusions for nature centers and natural areas. Its dog-park directory lists separate off-leash facilities with their own entry and vaccination rules.
Barkham at Markham Park and Woofing Waters at Quiet Waters Park require a membership or daily fee, and proof of rabies vaccination. The county describes Woofing Waters as seasonal. Do not assume the water feature is open simply because the main park is open.
Confirm the facility's current status, required documents and fees before visiting. A general park admission charge and a dog-facility charge can be separate. Keep your paperwork with you rather than relying on a photograph of a dog tag being sufficient everywhere.
Palm Beach County: a broad rule with important exclusions
Palm Beach County allows dogs in most county parks on a leash no longer than six feet. Its official page also lists exclusions, including county beaches, Riverbend Park, Loxahatchee River Battlefield Park, Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens, Gulfstream Park and Wakodahatchee Wetlands, along with other signed locations and facility categories.
Do not flatten that into "all county parks allow dogs." Check the exact park and the area inside it. Pools, splashparks, waterparks, golf courses and nature-center facilities have separate exclusions on the county page.
The county's broad rule also should not be used to overwrite Jupiter's specifically defined town dog beach. Jurisdiction and location matter. When two summaries sound inconsistent, go back to the official page for the exact place instead of applying the most convenient sentence.
For restaurant patios, confirm before you sit down
A patio is not a guarantee of pet permission. Before making a restaurant part of the outing, ask whether dogs are allowed in the specific seating area, how you enter it, whether there are leash or size rules, and whether the policy applies during your planned visit.
This guide does not certify a particular restaurant's current pet policy. A third-party listing, a photo of another customer's dog or an old social post is not the same as confirmation from the restaurant. Call ahead when the whole day depends on that stop.
Check the home and the route, not only the attraction
For a buyer with a dog, the daily route can matter more than a famous beach across the county. Walk the actual route near a home. Notice shade, crossings and where a legal leashed walk can continue. Check the current rules at the specific park rather than judging from an aerial map.
If the home is in a condominium or homeowners association, read its own pet rules and the property's governing documents. A nearby public dog park does not change a building's restrictions. Do not rely on a listing's friendly pet language as a substitute for the applicable rules.
For an outing, keep a leash, waste bags, fresh water and required permits or vaccination records together. Confirm boundaries, hours, parking and closures on the same day when those details affect your plan. Give your dog space from other people and animals, and leave if the conditions or behavior are not a good fit.
Homes by Cusi can help you compare the practical details of life around a move. A useful dog-friendly routine starts with the places your dog can actually use, not the longest list of places on a map.
