New Parks Coming to Broward & Palm Beach: 2026 Construction Update
Updated September 2026 with the latest from city, county and park district sources, The Boca Raton Tribune, Boca Daily News, WLRN and The Woodlands Tamarac.
New Parks Are Coming to Broward and Palm Beach County
South Florida doesn't have much open land left, so a new park is a big deal for the neighborhood around it. Right now there are more park projects moving at once than I've seen in years. Almost all of them are being built on land that used to be something else: a dead golf course, an old pool, a clubhouse, or land a developer gave to the city.
Here's where they are and what's actually happening as of late September 2026.
Broward County
Wedge Preserve Park, Parkland
This 36-acre park at Hillsboro Boulevard and Nob Hill Road broke ground in June 2025. The planned amenities include ball fields, basketball courts, covered pickleball, a ninja course, playgrounds, a splash pad, a pavilion, boardwalks and a community building you can rent. City staff described a 19-month build, which points to about November 2026, weather permitting. The city hasn't announced a firm opening date, and it has said amenities could be added, removed or phased based on cost. I wrote a full post on Wedge Preserve earlier on this blog.
Eastside Community Park, Tamarac
Tamarac rezoned the former Shaker Village Clubhouse property off Commercial Boulevard for a new park in January. Plans call for a two-story, 10,000-square-foot recreation center, a playground, a fishing pier, tennis and basketball courts, a pavilion and a walking path. The city held a neighborhood meeting on September 16 as the site plan moves through review. There's no construction start or opening date yet, and city staff have said the project depends on grants.
Coral Springs Sportsplex
Coral Springs is planning a major Sportsplex rebuild, but in August commissioners pushed the $1.17 million design contract until after the November 3 property tax vote. I covered it in my Sportsplex post.
Palm Beach County
North Park, Boca Raton
The old Ocean Breeze Golf Course in Boca Teeca is finally becoming a park. The Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District held the official construction start on September 3 for about 69 acres on the east side, under a $19.7 million contract with Butters Construction. Plans include trails, mountain bike trails, a dog park, a playground, gardens and restrooms. The free Traffic Garden for kids is already open.
The proposed skate park and pump track received a 7-0 planning board vote in early September. The park district still lists the skate park as a proposed, not-yet-approved feature; construction timing depends on the remaining city process and permits. Next door, the Boca Paddle by City Pickle indoor racquet club was expected to open in November, but check its current date before visiting.
Pompey Park, Delray Beach
Delray broke ground on September 10 on the $59.2 million Pompey Park rebuild. The new two-story recreation center will be about 54,000 square feet, more than double the current one. The project also adds two pools, a baseball field, a playground and basketball courts. It's paid for by the Delray Beach CRA and is expected to wrap up around 2027. The city says construction will be phased, so some facilities will be closed at times.
Lake Lytal Park, West Palm Beach
Palm Beach County and the YMCA of the Palm Beaches are rebuilding this 55-year-old park near Kirk Road and Southern Boulevard. Together the projects are worth close to $80 million. The county is building a $36 million competition aquatic center, and the Y is building a community center and an Olympic-style skate park. In August the Y announced $1.5 million in state funding for its building. Both sides are targeting a January 2027 opening.
Also in the Works
- Gardens Nature Park and Trail, Palm Beach Gardens: About 24 acres near Avenir, with trails, a nature pavilion and a fishing pier. It's still in final planning, and nearby residents have raised concerns.
- Miracle League Field, John Prince Park, Lake Worth: A barrier-free ball field for athletes with disabilities. It broke ground in June, and no opening date has been announced.
- Royal Palm Beach Recreation Center: A $20.1 million expansion with a new gym, expected by September 2027.
Already Open
- Huizenga Park, Fort Lauderdale: Reopened in January after a $15 million redesign, with new lawns, a play area and downtown's first dog run.
- West Boynton Park: Two new turf fields opened in May.
- Traffic Garden at North Park, Boca: Free and open now.
What This Means for Homeowners and Buyers
In my experience, a new park shows up in how buyers feel about a neighborhood well before it shows up in a sale price. If you live near Hillsboro and Nob Hill in Parkland, in Boca Teeca, around Pompey Park in Delray, near Shaker Village in Tamarac, or near Kirk and Southern in West Palm, something real is being built near you.
- Sellers: Mention nearby park projects in your listing, but stick to what's approved and under construction.
- Buyers: Buy the home on its own merits. Renderings change, and the final amenity list can shrink if costs go up.
- Everyone: Construction means trucks and some noise for a while. Check the timeline if you're close to a site.
For context, MIAMI Realtors' August 2026 table lists a $650,000 Broward single-family median and 4.1 months of supply. Those are countywide figures, not a forecast of any home's value or the effect of a new park.
